The title was conceived in my mind after I thought over all the situations, I had found myself in, how I got out of them, and the affect all of this had on my overall physical and mental well-being.

Author Bio:

Shirley Harris-Slaughter is the author of Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community which was written to address a need to preserve Catholic history in her local community. She mentored four freshman girls at the local middle school. She is active in her church and https://ravereviewsbookclub.wordpress.com/virtual book club community where she has added another biography and fiction to her repertoire. She is married to Langston and is a Michigan Native.

A BIT MORE ABOUT ME:

During my graduate studies I prepared an Applied Research Project to address the deplorable condition of our train station, in downtown Detroit, MI. It was certified and accepted by the faculty of Cleary University in August 1993. I was able to galvanize the entire community around this issue which was videotaped and featured on broadcast news. I utilized college interns and the city of Detroit to find some answers in order to provide a template for saving this historic station. Here is the Title…

  8. Shirley, my fellow Michigander, glad to see you on this tour. I loved reading your books about the church and brother, both were educational and garnered high marks. I’m going to have to look into this other book to see how crazy and hot you really are. Thank you, too, my “sister in arms” for hosting Shirley on her tour. I do appreciate how supportive you are to fellow RRBC club members.

    1. John, you make me laugh. I’ve been kind of under since getting my second Covid Vaccine on Wednesday. I feel much better today but mostly my energy got zapped after each dose and I got the chills right after. Oh, I didn’t really get into a lot of hot stuff because I’m not expert at fiction writing; and that’s the only way you would get more of the nitty gritty. HaHa! Thank you my neighbor and we don’t live too far from each other. How about that?

    2. John, President Obama made a basketball shot on television while he was campaigning with President Biden. When the ball went into the net (I don’t know the basketball terminology for this but I should) he yelled, “That’s what I do!” Well, supporting one another is what we do at RRBC, so, in response to your appreciation for Pat supporting her fellow RRBC members, President Nonnie says: “That’s what we do!!!”

        I agree with the statement that’s what we do. I have always been a person that wants to help. The speech from John F. Kennedy rings in my mind. On his Inaguration Day, the one sentence that stuck in my mind at such a young, tender age, and has never gone away was, ‘ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.’ That sentence along with a song that I heard Mahalia Jackson sang, ‘If I Can Help Somebody’ reside in my heart and I have found that when I stay true to what these two phrases have done in my heart, I grab hold of a bag of pleasure that makes me happy.

    3. Hi John,
      I had to smile at the phrase, ‘sister in arms’. I haven’t heard it in a long time but it still brings goose bumps to my arms when I hear it. When I got activated over here in Europe to be a part of Operation Joint Endeavour (the entire 7th Army Reserve Command was activated) we female soldiers referred to ourselves as ‘sisters in arms’. We stuck together, all of us, regardless of race, and sometimes I miss that. I personally believe that is how we all got through it.

      1. It also reminds me of The Staples Singers’ song, “You’re Gonna Need Somebody on Your Bond,” Pat. Old Gospel tune, I know, but I like their version the best. Last Saturday, I did an hour-long interview of Reggie Harris, a singer/songwriter who was supposed to do a CD release concert but he broke his wrist. Instead, we did an interview. His new CD is called “On Solid Ground,” and I think you’d like it. You can find him on YouTube. He is awesome.

        I have never heard of Reggie Harris but I am well acquainted with the music by the Staples Singers. They were one of my favorite groups. I will have to check him out on YouTube.

I once did a blog tour here on Crazy Hot and it still amazes me of the folks who haven’t read it; mainly because of new people coming in all the time. So a book never goes out of style. Its really difficult trying to read all the good books here. I have a few in my pile that I need to get to. Thank you so much for being here and adding to the conversation.
