A DAY IN MY LIFE … SUBTITLE: SNIPPETS OF ME by Pat Garcia

A DAY IN MY LIFE…
SNIPPETS OF ME By Pat Garcia,
2023 #RRBC 30-Day blogging Challenge

JANUARY 2, 2023

I don’t usually blog about my life. It’s too personal, so I’ve added a subtitle, Snippets of Me, to give you some idea of who I am. As I said on the first page of this website, I’m still discovering myself, and therefore find it presumptuous to talk about who I am when I am unsure.

My day usually starts at 5:30 in the morning. Normally, I’m awake at 5 a.m. and sometimes earlier when I receive parts of a story and start writing at 1 or 2 a.m.

However, sometimes I struggle with unexpected circumstances like crises in the world, and my mind gets bogged. Like a roadblock, these situations hinder me. I start getting up later and have to fight my way back to my routine.

I write and read every single day except Sundays. I have belonged to two organizations since 2012 and 2014, respectively, and I blog with one group once a month and with the other once every two months. That’s enough blogging for me.

For me, it is crucial to start my day off in quietness. I don’t run to WhatsApp, Messenger, or my emails. I answer my phone at 11:30 a.m. Out of respect, I look at my WordPress app to see if a visitor has left a comment on one of my blogs and approve it. But I draw the line after doing that.

Shalom aleichem,

  1. Hi, Pat. I letened to you speak about your book Janey B. tonight. And I will definitely be byeing that book.Sounds like something that can happen in true life. And I like realistic stories.

  2. ninanorstrom – Award-winning Author/Speaker/Wellness Coach . . . Nina has been writing for more than twenty years and was first published in 2010. She embraces several organizations, with the American Cancer Society and Hospice Center, among others. In her quest to reach out and give back, it's through her role in volunteering and being a participant in various walk-a-thons to fight against toxic relationships she demonstrates a passion for forgiving back. “With every journey one takes, there’s a story to be told.” It is through that profound statement, this author has taken on the role of Author Preneurship . . . expressing her gift and exposing her writing skills.

Hello Pat: Nice and interesting blog! After reading your post, I can resonate with both statements: 1) the personalization of our lives, and the discovery of “the self”. Although we’ve never met, I felt a connection to you (right away). Are your Sundays set aside for taking a “Me Day?” Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hello Ninaorstrom,
Thank you. It is nice meeting you. I don’t usually blog often, but I am, as you have probably seen, participating in a Challenge titled, A DAY IN MY LIFE… and I added a subtitle to break it down a little more into SNIPPETS. My Sundays are set aside for my church, for going out to dinner with one or all of my besties, for playing solitaire on my mobil, for drinking one or two classes of red wine and sitting at my fireplace, for daydreaming, for reading a good book, for seeing a film that interests me on two of the streaming channels and taking a nap. I don’t do all of these things, but I choose what I would like to do by Saturday, and those are the things I do. I don’t go on my emails or do anything that even smells like work unless it is a dire emergency.
I hope this answers your question.

Yes, it definitely answer the question. Your reply indicates (to me) that you do take to nurture yourself. So, you do have a “Me Day.” And I side aside Sundays for my “Me Day’,” as well. Good to that we walk in similar circles. I love it!

  3. I’m also an early riser Pat, often at 4:30 in the morning. This happens because I write in my sleep. When I have a paragraph, I wake up and enter the words in my computer. Getting up early throws off meals for the entire day and I’m ready for lunch at 10:30. Does this happen to you?

    1. Hello, Lady Harriet,
When I wake up with words to write, I wake up and write them. And yes, it does throw me off for the rest of my day. So, yes, it happens to me. I think it is because we are wide awake and our bodies think it is day time but it isn’t. I try to take it easy when it happens and relax and let sleep come upon me, even if it is noon time. I sleep for about two to three hours and then I am back in rhythm with myself.
Thank you for coming by and have a lovely day.
      Shalom aleichem

  4. Hi Pat, Donna Atwood here. You are a wise woman for taking a break every week. I too have adopted this lifestyle change, as I’m no good to others if I’m not good to myself. Here’s to wishing you and yours many blessings in 2023.

  5. Stories by Karen – USA – With a degree in Criminal Justice, and a fascination with the supernatural, Black combines experience and imagination to create dramatic stories that are believable, but don’t end quite the way you would expect. Black is best known for her short story, MOUNTAIN JUSTICE, where a horse takes center stage in a story of violence and suspense. Her first novel, RACE INTO MURDER, is also equine related. The murder mystery is set at a racetrack, which is not surprising, since for years, she owned and loved thoroughbred racehorses. She still follows the racing circuits. An animal and nature lover, this author does most of her writing in the fall and winter. In the spring and summer, there are hummingbirds to feed, baby critters to watch, gardens to plant, and herbs to nurture. Black lives in the United States with her husband and two aliens disguised as cats. One of the critters is rumored to be ET’s second cousin, but that has not been confirmed.
    Karen Black says:

Like you, I rarely blog about personal issues. I believe that some things are better kept close.

  6. Hi, Pat! I am aspiring to be like you – to stay away from the world on Sunday (as you often lovingly insist that I do).

I will be so happy when that war, that is so close to you, comes to an end. I hear the distress coming through your words loud and clear. You are constantly in my prayers. I pray for your safety and for you to have peace.

Thank you for this beautiful post. Looking forward to your Day 2 🙂

  7. Hi Pat. First things first. Hearty congratulations for the WEP. I loved your piece.
Secondly, I enjoy being on your blog. Getting to know you is like seeing a reflection of the kind of person I’d like to be or one that I’m turning into. Quietness is infectious, isn’t it! I wish you a beautiful 2023.

    1. Hello Sonia,
Thank you. If I am a reflection, or a mirror of how you want to be as a writer, then that is the highest compliment any writer could receive. I am humbled by your thought.
      Shalom aleichem

  8. Patty Perrin – Florida – Author of Teen/YA SciFi Adventure and Inspirational Non-Fiction, I'm an avid reader, happily married to the love of my life, a mom and gramma and a light and salty follower of Jesus Christ. I grew up an Army Brat in Europe, had no television, and subsequently read books for entertainment in-between adventures that my parents never knew about. My TETRASPHERE series is one I would have loved reading as a teen, which is why I wrote it. I still enjoy the Teen/YA genre, along with SciFi, Fantasy, Time-Travel, some Romance, Mystery, and a few non-fiction categories. If it has print, I will read it. If I can squeeze it into my Kindle, I will read it. You can find out more at www.ptlperrin.org.
    Patty Perrin says:

Hi, Pat! Rising that early and greeting the dawn is on my bucket list, but chances are slim that I’ll make a habit of it. I admire you for doing it as I envy the added hours you’ve added to your day. I love snippets, and look forward to getting to know you better through yours. Blessings!

    1. Good Morning Patty,
I look forward to learning more about you too. We have much in common my friend.
      Shalom aleichem

  9. Susanne Leist – United States – A career in writing has been an enormous leap for me. Accustomed to the number-crunching field of budgeting and the hectic commodity markets, I left my first career and M.B.A. in Finance behind to pursue my dream. However, I do not regret my foray into literature for one moment. I write every day and have even tried my hand at poetry. So don’t let anyone tell you it’s too late in life to try something different. It is never too late to follow your heart. THE DEAD GAME SERIES brings fantasy and surrealism to the classic murder mystery with dead bodies, suspects, and clues. In addition, it offers vampires and a touch of romance to spice the motley mix. My new release, MEET ME IN MAINE, is the first book in THE BLUE HARBOR SERIES. It provides the backdrop for murder, mystery, and romance in a seaside town. Love falters and flourishes as the residents fight the persistent evil plaguing their small-town lives. Sit back, put up your feet, and let me bring mystery and romance to your lives.
    Susanne Leist says:

Hi. My writing has also been affected by life events and Covid. First, it was the fear of Covid. A friend of mine caught it at the beginning of the epidemic and is in a nursing home. They induced a coma, and she never recovered. I was terrified of it, wearing my mask and washing my hands until I caught it from my husband. He was sick a few days and went back to work, while I’m struggling to gain back my strength. I joined the blog challenge as a way to get myself writing again. I hope both of us get our writing mojo back.

    1. Hi, Susanne,
I am quite sure you will get it altogether again.
Get well soon and thank you for dropping by.
      Shalom aleichem

  10. My work days start at 5 am as well, Pat, and I hate it. I think it’s ungodly for anyone to have to wake up before the sun. Lol! That’s why I love weekends and vacations so much. I don’t have to wake up so early. 🙂

    1. Good Morning, Yvette,
I am smiling. I feel the same way about lying on the beach, but you enjoy it. It’s so nice to be different but accepting of others.
      Love you.
      Shalom aleichem

  11. Your routine is perfect, Pat. I do venture onto FB to see pictures of the grands, but that’s about it. Keep up the great blogging!

    1. Hi, Karl,
Thank you, Karl. I look forward to knowing more about you too.
      Shalom aleichem

Excellent subtitle, Pat! I sometimes think of one day writing a non-fiction book, so this is good practice for me. Tomorrow I might just give details about my breakfast habit! (It’s the same almost every day). Take care!

    1. Hi Wanda,
Thank you very much. I look forward to reading your blog post.
      Shalom aleichem

  14. Shirley Harris-Slaughter – I love old buildings and history. That's why I ended up writing about the history that surrounded me all of my life - "Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community." Plus our church had closed and the school is torn down, so I felt it was imperative that we preserve the history or it would be lost forever.
    Shirley Harris-Slaughter says:

Well, you’re off to a good start, Pat.

    Happy New Year!

  15. maurabeth2014 – Writer of fiction with a touch of suspense and romance. Avid reader, walker, old movie watcher, caffeine drinker, candy muncher (yeah, I said it). #RRBC_RWISA
    maurabeth2014 says:

I enjoyed getting a glimpse of your life, Pat, and salute you for being an early riser! I am not. Thanks for your “snippet”!!

    1. Hello Maura Beth,
Thank you! I love early morning.
I look forward to reading yours.
      Shalom aleichem

  16. I follow the morning routine you reveal here, but not quite as early as you. Like you, I begin with quietness. Then breakfast, sometimes in reverse order.

    1. Hello, Marian,
Thank you for dropping by. It is nice to know that we have a similar morning routine.
      Shalom aleichem,
