REMEMBERING THANKSGIVING, A POEM BY Pat Garcia

It’s not about turkey, yams, or stuffing,

Thanksgiving 2016

But the pleasure of gathering to share a meal.

It’s not about money, expensive toys, or outrageous shopping,

But the realization that grace has been extended to see another year almost past and go.

It’s not about closing our doors to visitors and hugging everything for self,

But opening the heart as we reach out to the unfortunate in some unique way.

Thanksgiving,

An opportunity to show gratitude,

Instead of just talking about it.

Thanksgiving,

Becoming conscious of the reality that there is Someone more significant than you and me,

Who knows more than we could ever fathom to understand,

And whose love for us is boundless.

Thanksgiving,

A day set aside to give special thanks to God.

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

Be blessed.

Shalom aleichem,

Pat Garcia

  1. markbierman – Born and raised on a farm near Brockville, Ontario, Mark Bierman's childhood consisted of chores, riding horses, snowmobile races across open fields, fishing trips to a local lake, and many other outdoor adventures. He was also an avid reader of both fiction and non. Transitioning towards adulthood also meant moving from the farm and into large urban areas that introduced this country boy to life in the big cities. After a short stint as a private investigator, he moved into the role of Correctional Officer, working at both Millhaven Institution and Kingston Penitentiary, until it closed.

Amen to that! Beautiful poem, and so much wisdom and truth. Well done, Pat.

  2. Jacqui Murray – Laguna Hills, CA. – Jacqui Murray is the author of the popular prehistoric fiction saga, Man vs. Nature which explores seminal events in man’s evolution one trilogy at a time. She is also the author of the Rowe-Delamagente thrillers and Building a Midshipman, the story of her daughter’s journey from high school to United States Naval Academy. Her non-fiction includes over a hundred books on integrating tech into education, reviews as an Amazon Vine Voice, and a freelance journalist on tech ed topics. Look for her next prehistoric fiction, Savage Land.

  3. Not sure if my prior comment posted, but I liked “Becoming conscious of the reality that there is Someone more significant than you and me” the best.

  4. Author Jan Sikes – Texas – I am an award-winning author. I love creative writing and I love music. I've published four books that are true stories written in fiction format. They are entertaining like fiction, but everything did actually happen. I've also published a book of poetry and art, nine fiction short stories, and a paranormal romance series (The White Rune Series). I enjoy promoting other authors and Texas music artists!

A beautiful heart-warming sentiment, Pat! Thank you for sharing!

  6. Carol Schoenig – love to read romance stories. As I have aged and continued to read romance stories, I noticed that the characters don’t necessarily age. Talking with my friends and hearing them say they would like to read stories of people similar in age to them. But, what drew me to want to write Boomer Lit was the stories I heard from real people. People in their 60’s, 70’s and up getting married for the second or third time. In some cases might even be the first time. Love changes and the season of love in your twenties, thirties, etc. is different than love in your sixties or older. These are people who have lived life with all of its ups and downs and turns in the road. They’ve been through disappointment in love, unrequited love, loveless marriages and yet they still hope for that connection that soul mate who will love them as they are and know them like no one else. These same people still experience problems with falling in love. Children are not approving, financial risks and concerns about where to live or how to divide up property when they expire. I welcome you to tell me your story of how you met and fell in love whatever age you are. Thank you for visiting my site.  I look forward to getting to know you better. Carol
