DAY 13, JANUARY 14, 2023

I wouldn’t say I like cold weather. Neither does the liquid sunshine that regularly falls here in my part of the country please me, and let me not wake up in the winter and see beautiful dandruff covering my windows.

Dandruff, the snowflakes relaxing on window, vex me, especially. That was until I learned how to Alpine Ski in Austria. If someone had told me that I would have fallen in love with the sport after the first week of a ski trip, I would have said, “you’re crazy.”

I looked to see if I still had my photo with me in my yellow ski suit. Unfortunately, I don’t. My office flooded twice in one year a few years ago, and some of my pictures did not outlive the flood.

I stopped skiing after my husband, and some of our friends went skiing on a very high mountain, and Hans, my husband, returned with six broken ribs. They had wanted me to come with them and give the mountain a try. But I said no because I knew my skills were not advanced enough to go down those slopes. Like I said before in one of my posts, I’ve learned to choose my battles regardless of what kind of battles they may be.

People get insulted and speak words that will hurt you when you do that, but I stick to what I’ve said. Thus, I’m thankful I always have takeaways from my past mistakes.

After his accident, Hans didn’t want to ski anymore. I found that out the following year when planning our ski trip.

Still, I’m not too fond of snow, but I have a heart for those in Europe who look forward to skiing.

It has been a long morning for me. After my routine, I have already completed two new items I have put on my list.

Therefore, my list for today is as follows:

  1. I am revising the first 10K of my new novel. It usually takes me at least four to six days to fix 10K. I like to send her what I call my final draft so that she understands the direction I’m moving in.
  2. I have a letter to write. I had decided to wait until after the Challenge, but my gut is telling me to do it now, which is what I will do.
  3. Answering emails and text messages, Daily
  4. Attend my writing classes and do my homework,
  5. Updated Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel on my Mac. (Completed)
  6. Schedule a Zoom meeting for later. (Completed)
  7.  Do the accounting books for the Romantic Women Fiction Chapter of the RWA.
  8. Buy gas for my car.
  9. Go to the drugstore.

Have a lovely Saturday.

Shalom aleichem,

  1. Shirley Harris-Slaughter – I love old buildings and history. That's why I ended up writing about the history that surrounded me all of my life - "Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community." Plus our church had closed and the school is torn down, so I felt it was imperative that we preserve the history or it would be lost forever.
    Shirley Harris-Slaughter says:

Pat, it’s good to listen to your intuition and you do that. It has protected you. Keep doing it and it will serve you well.

  2. Susanne Leist – United States – Welcome, reader. I’m the author behind two paranormal suspense series designed to keep you on the edge of your seat and maybe even tug at your heart. In The Dead Game Series, The Dead walk in the night and into the day, leading our heroines on a dangerous journey from the sunny shores of Florida to the icy reaches of Quebec. My latest project, The Blue Harbor Series, introduces a new pair of heroines determined to save their coastal town from an ancient Indian curse. In Book One: Meet Me In Maine, they confront the curse’s dark origin and the painful legacy of the Penobscot Nation, unjustly uprooted by colonization. So please sit back, put your feet up, and let me bring a little mystery and romance into your world. As a special treat, I invite you to read My Last Year, a heartfelt story written from the perspective of my beloved Maltese, Nounous, my muse, my shadow, and my best friend.
    Susanne Leist says:

I tried skiing once with my husband, and then never again. I couldn’t find ski boots to fit over my calves at the rental store. The rest of my body wasn’t big, but I didn’t know then I had lymphedema in my legs making them swollen. I rented huge boots and could hardly move in them. I spent some time on the bunny slope and then gave up. So, I won’t be sharing any ski stories on my blog.

    1. Hi, Susanne,
I’m so sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I bought ski boots and my own ski suit. I think that might have help me have a successful first experience. My husband took me shopping in Frankfurt and made sure everything fitted me perfectly.
      Take care.

  3. Patty Perrin – Florida – Author of Teen/YA SciFi Adventure and Inspirational Non-Fiction, I'm an avid reader, happily married to the love of my life, a mom and gramma and a light and salty follower of Jesus Christ. I grew up an Army Brat in Europe, had no television, and subsequently read books for entertainment in-between adventures that my parents never knew about. My TETRASPHERE series is one I would have loved reading as a teen, which is why I wrote it. I still enjoy the Teen/YA genre, along with SciFi, Fantasy, Time-Travel, some Romance, Mystery, and a few non-fiction categories. If it has print, I will read it. If I can squeeze it into my Kindle, I will read it. You can find out more at www.ptlperrin.org.
    Patty Perrin says:

I tried skiing once, Pat. I was a freshman in high school, a cheerleader, and I had a crush on a boy who didn’t know I existed. Our school sponsored a ski trip to Cortina D’Ampezzo in the Dolomites in Italy. Skiing looked easy enough, so I hopped on the lift because that’s where he went. He started down the slope with obvious skill, so I followed him. As it turned out, knowing how to slow down or stop on skis is an important skill I hadn’t taken the time to learn. The bus ride home was quite painful with a broken ankle that ended my cheerleading career, any desire I had to ski again, and any interest I had in that boy.

    Blessings!
    Patty

  4. Pat–I never liked skiing, even though I grew up in the great Northeastern states (New England). I always told my friends, “I have better things to do than sit on my butt in the snow!” Several of my good friends were expert skiers, though, and I did go on ski trips with them to mountains in New Hampshire and Vermont. I sat in the respective lodges and read books while they went out and skied. I have tried ice skating but was never too good at that, either. My grandsons are hockey wizards. They’re making up for the fact I can’t do winter sports, I guess. I play tennis indoors all winter.

    1. maurabeth2014 – Writer of fiction with a touch of suspense and romance. Avid reader, walker, old movie watcher, caffeine drinker, candy muncher (yeah, I said it). #RRBC_RWISA

Pat, I tried skiing once and in a couple of minutes fell flat on my you know what and couldn’t get up. Congrats on crossing those new things off your list!

  5. I’ve only gone skiing one time and loved it! I only did the easy slows, but it was fun. I also tried snowboarding, but I could never get the hang of it. My feet don’t like to be confined to the same board. I’ve always wanted to take my son skiing, but my knees and ankles aren’t what they used to be and I really don’t like the cold. That might just be something he tries with a group of friends. Lol!

  6. Skiing is a risky sport but so exhilarating. We took our family skiing in the Georgia and North Carolina mountains back in the day. I don’t take such risks now; I’m sure I’d break more than ribs at my age. I’ll probably see you on Zoom today, Pat!
