HAPPY NATIONAL OREO COOKIE DAY!
DAY 6, MARCH 6, 2024

The Oreo cookie is the best-known American cookie. As a child, my sisters and brother loved to eat them. I googled Oreos to find out how significant their influence is on the American public and found it is enormous. I just discovered that nine out of ten households buy Oreos and that 7.5 billion Oreos are sold yearly. Nabisco created Oreos; as of 2015, 450 billion Oreos had been sold. So, it is America’s best-selling cookie. Also, its official National Eat An Oreo Day is held every year on June 19.

You’re probably thinking, we don’t have Oreos here in Europe. That is an American tradition.

Well, I don’t mean to disappoint you, but we have something similar to Oreos, but they aren’t called Oreos.

Ours are called Cookeo. Cookeo is a Vegan product produced in Germany, which is super for flexitarians like me.
So, treat yourself today, have a warm cup of milk, and eat three or four Oreos.

Now on to work. I have lots to do, but I wanted to mention my fireplace again because I told you I wanted to go outside and bring in some wood yesterday. Yesterday evening was the Champions League game between Bayern München and Lazio Rome. Bayern had to win to go to the quarterfinals. I know you’re wondering what this has to do with my fireplace. Hold on, I’ll get to the point. 😇 I wanted to sit by the fire as I looked at the game, and I did. So, here is a picture of my living room with the fireplace lit.

Soccer is one of those things that gives me joy.🤩

I won’t tell you who won the game, but it was a great game. A few minutes before midnight, I turned in to get some zzzzzzz😴.

Have a great day, People. I have IWSG Day today, and I’m finishing up the first reading of my novella.

Shalom shalom

  1. Patty Perrin – Florida – Author of Teen/YA SciFi Adventure and Inspirational Non-Fiction, I'm an avid reader, happily married to the love of my life, a mom and gramma and a light and salty follower of Jesus Christ. I grew up an Army Brat in Europe, had no television, and subsequently read books for entertainment in-between adventures that my parents never knew about. My TETRASPHERE series is one I would have loved reading as a teen, which is why I wrote it. I still enjoy the Teen/YA genre, along with SciFi, Fantasy, Time-Travel, some Romance, Mystery, and a few non-fiction categories. If it has print, I will read it. If I can squeeze it into my Kindle, I will read it. You can find out more at www.ptlperrin.org.

What a warm and wonderful-looking fireplace, Pat! I’m so glad you got to enjoy the game with the fireplace crackling nearby. I’ve become fond of Oreo thins, but I’ll be avoiding them in the future. How cool that there’s a vegan alternative!

    Blessings!
    Patty

    1. Hello My Dear Patty,
Yes, I am happy that there is a vegan option for the Oreo cookie. I limit myself to 4 every two weeks.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
      Shalom shalom

Pat, I think the potato chip people stole the slogan for Oreos…”I bet you can’t eat just one” seems to sum it up. I know I can’t. It’s either a handful or nothing. I did discover late in life that eating Oreos impacted my blood sugar…so I had to give them up. So who won the friggin game?

    1. Hello, JP,
My team, Bayern München won, but nobody thought they had a chance, because there were some grave misunderstandings with the new coach.

Thank you, JP, for supporting me in the challenge.
Take care and have a lovely day.

  3. Shirley Harris-Slaughter – I love old buildings and history. That's why I ended up writing about the history that surrounded me all of my life - "Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community." Plus our church had closed and the school is torn down, so I felt it was imperative that we preserve the history or it would be lost forever.
    Shirley Harris-Slaughter says:

Yes Pat, there was always an Oreo Cookie in my life. I didn’t develop a taste for them but I ate them now and then. Sadly sometimes children can take something and turn it into something else. My son was called an oreo because although he was brown skinned, he spoke perfectly proper English just like the Caucasians, at least the ones up north. Down south, well their language was less than desireable to hear. The point was he was smart way beyond his years and he spoke good English. That didn’t sit well in the black community. Boy, did I learn something. It was ok in the black community to dumb down your speaking habits and your comprehension when it came to reading, speaking and math. They tried to dumb down math at one time introducing the “new math.” Well that didn’t go over well and it faded in time. One + one is two and it can’t be changed or rationalized into something else.

The point I’m trying to make is children can be cruel sometimes; taking a perfectly good thing and making something terrible out of it. Calling my son or any child an oreo – a cookie that is dark brown on the outside with white creme inside was shocking to me and the first time I was ever to hear this. But this was clearly a situation that needed to be addressed by the parents. Oh well, so much for America’s favorite cookie. Crazy, huh?

    1. Hello My Dear Shirley,
I am from the South, and I can tell you that I went through the same as your son. I took a half a semester of Russian and it was like I had some of kind of disease. I was called Oreo, but I stayed in my class. Kids can be horrible when you’re different.
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your support.
Have a lovely day and take care.
      Shalom shalom

    1. Hello My Dear Yvette,
Yes, Oreos are addicting, but I love them. I don’t eat as many these days because of my figure.
Take care and have a lovely day.
      Shalom shalom

  4. Oreos, Cookeos, I’ll take them any way I can get ’em! Recently I tried Oreo Thins–major yum. Happy soccer / football watching!

    1. Many, Many thanks, Jennifer! Nowadays I eat only a few a week instead of a whole package. They are delicious. And yes I enjoyed watching the soccer game tremendously.
Thank you so much for dropping by and take care.
      Shalom shalom

  5. I’m sure Nabisco has registered the name Oreo. Cookeo is a clever adaptation!

Your fireplace looks so inviting. Thanks for sharing warm bits of your life here.

    1. Hello Marian,
Yes, Nabisco is a registered trademark.
I enjoy my fireplace so much. I am very thankful for it.
Have a lovely day and take care.
      Shalom shalom

    1. Backatya, Partner!
Happy Oreo cookie day and thank you for dropping by.

  7. Fire and Football Pat, I understand how you loved that. The reason I say this is that mike is an avid Arsenal supported. He never misses a game, however does not go to home matches anymore. The Telly comes in handy though. Enjoy the cookeos.

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by, Joy. Yes, there is nothing more relaxing than watching a football game after a hard days work. I prefer to watch them on the telly instead of in the stadium.
Have a lovely day and take care.
      Shalom shalom

  8. Cookieo, eh? Sounds good to me! Anything that even looks like a chocolate cookie with cream inside calls my name! When I was doing research on Oreos yesterday, their site said that they were invented in 1912 (the same year Fenway Park opened, by the way) as a competitor to Hydrox cookies. I have always thought Oreos to be far superior to Hydrox. My mother bought Hydrox if Oreos weren’t available. I don’t even know if Hydrox are still available…

    1. Many, Many thanks for dropping by, Wanda. I think Oreos are the best but since they are so expensive over here, I am happy I found a substitute.

Take care and have a lovely day.
      Shalom shalom

  9. J.Q. Rose – After writing feature articles in magazines, newspapers, and online magazines for over fifteen years, J.Q. Rose entered the world of fiction. Her mysteries published by BWL Publishing are Terror on Sunshine Boulevard, Dangerous Sanctuary, and Deadly Undertaking. She returned to her first love of writing non-fiction with eBooks on gardening and writing and an inspiring interactive eBook for MG girls, Girls Succeed: Stories Behind the Careers of Successful Women. After presenting workshops on Life Storytelling for 20 years, JQ used the lessons she shared with her participants to pen her memoir, Arranging a Dream: A Memoir. The inspiring story takes place in 1975-1976 when we moved to West Michigan to purchase a floral shop. We did not know anything about running a business, designing flowers or operating a commercial greenhouse business. Blogging, photography, Pegs and Jokers board games and travel are the things that keep her out of trouble. She and her husband spend winters in Florida and summers up north with their two daughters, two sons-in-law, four grandsons, one granddaughter, two grand dogs, four grand cats, and one great-grand bearded dragon.
    J.Q. Rose says:

I am happy to celebrate Oreo Day. The question is always, do you open the cookie and eat the icing first or just eat it like a sandwich? Sandwich for me. I am not familiar with the term flexigenarian. Your fireplace is a peaceful sight. Happy IWSG day!!!

    1. Many, Many thanks J.Q. for dropping by. I would say that eating an Oreo as a sandwich is best for me.
A Flexigenarian is someone that is half and half vegetarian.
I enjoy my fireplace because it is peaceful to sit by it and read or dream.
Have a lovely day and take care.
      Shalom shalom
