DAY 19, JANUARY 20, 2023, A DAY IN MY LIFE…SNIPPETS OF ME By Pat Garcia @pat_garcia @RRBC_Org @RRBC_RWISA @Tweets4RWISA #RRBC_Community #RWISA #RRBC #ADayinMyLife

DAY 19, JANUARY 20, 2023

Living your life fully doesn’t mean being busy. There are many busy people, but if you look at their faces, they are miserable. Their eyes aren’t glowing. Happiness has eluded them. If you get the chance, look into their eyes, that is, if they will let you.

Busyness disrupts the soul and the spirituality of any person. It breaks the contact with the heart, and we disconnect from our core selves. That’s my belief.

So as I started out with the A DAY IN MY LIFE…SUBTITLE: SNIPPETS OF ME CHALLENGE, I wanted to measure my soulful spirituality to see if I was just being busy to be busy or if I was still on my journey, seeking to evolve into all that I am supposed to be on my journey.

I’m not going to tell you what I have found out, but I will say that I like who I am and who I am becoming.

Being and Becoming are separate processes that continually grow until you are dead. When you have totally become, you are no longer here.

Life is a journey that leads you to be fully alive (I’ve used the word ‘alive’ here to better define ‘Being’); fully becoming and what holds these two concepts together is LOVE. You can’t choose to be or to become as a single element without the other. If you’re all about being, your egocentricity stands out, and you walk over people. Living only a becoming life makes you otherworldly; your head is in the clouds, and you’re ignoring people.

Only through living a fully alive, fully becoming life do we find our significance and are thereby prepared in our hearts to reach out to others.

Jan Masuhr on Guitar, Pat Garcia, Soloist

Reach out and touch
Somebody’s hand
Make this world a better place, if you can.

Take a little time out your busy day
To give encouragement
To someone who’s lost the way
Or would I be talking to a stone
If I asked you
To share a problem that’s not your own

We can change things if we start giving
Why don’t you
Reach out and touch
Somebody’s hand
Make this world a better place
If you can.

If you see an old friend on the street
And he’s down
Remember, his shoes could fit your feet
Try a little kindness, and you’ll see
It’s something that comes
Very naturally.

We can change things if we start giving
Why don’t you
Reach out and touch
Somebody’s hand
Make this world a better place
If you can.

Now, the way I’ve said this might not be grammatically correct, but it’s my belief, and it springs from my heart.

My List is getting smaller.

  1. I’m revising the first 10K of my new novel. It usually takes me at least four to six days to fix 10K. I like to send her what I call my final draft so that she understands the direction I’m moving in.
  2. I have a letter to write. I had decided to wait until after the Challenge, but my gut is telling me to do it now, which is what I will do.
  3. Answering emails and text messages, Daily
  4. Attend my writing classes and do my homework,
  5. Catch up on blogs (I caught up on visiting all the blogs, Yeah, Yeah, YEAH!)
  6. Send one of my stories to the person who will do the critique I won for winning the WEP.
  7. RWF Board Meeting via Zoom (Completed. There’s a story behind my being on the board. I’ll tell it before the Challenge is over.)

Have a lovely day.

Shalom aleichem

  1. Shirley Harris-Slaughter – I love old buildings and history. That's why I ended up writing about the history that surrounded me all of my life - "Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community." Plus our church had closed and the school is torn down, so I felt it was imperative that we preserve the history or it would be lost forever.
    Shirley Harris-Slaughter says:

Pat, you seem to be living your best life. No regrets! You go girl!

  2. Susanne Leist – United States – Welcome, reader. I’m the author behind two paranormal suspense series designed to keep you on the edge of your seat and maybe even tug at your heart. In The Dead Game Series, The Dead walk in the night and into the day, leading our heroines on a dangerous journey from the sunny shores of Florida to the icy reaches of Quebec. My latest project, The Blue Harbor Series, introduces a new pair of heroines determined to save their coastal town from an ancient Indian curse. In Book One: Meet Me In Maine, they confront the curse’s dark origin and the painful legacy of the Penobscot Nation, unjustly uprooted by colonization. So please sit back, put your feet up, and let me bring a little mystery and romance into your world. As a special treat, I invite you to read My Last Year, a heartfelt story written from the perspective of my beloved Maltese, Nounous, my muse, my shadow, and my best friend.
    Susanne Leist says:

When you spoke about people being busy, I remembered my pet peeve. I hate when I meet people in the street and they’re in hurry and too busy to stop and talk. Even my cousin, who doesn’t work and has grown children, is too busy to talk to me in the supermarket. She’s the one who put me in the corner, next to a huge breakfront, at her Thanksgiving dinner. I finally remembered the name of that type of furniture. I’m never too busy to talk to someone even if I have something I need to do.

  3. maurabeth2014 – Writer of fiction with a touch of suspense and romance. Avid reader, walker, old movie watcher, caffeine drinker, candy muncher (yeah, I said it). #RRBC_RWISA

Pat, thought-provoking post, as yours always are. Made me think of a woman I know, who always claims proudly that “she cannot sit still,” as she flits from thing to thing. Being around her is so exhausting as she never focuses on anything. I think she does herself a disservice, and would benefit from taking a breath and reflecting. Sometimes, though, I feel I should be “busier,” as I slowed down so much during the pandemic and haven’t really gotten “out there” again yet. Thanks for the words of wisdom – you are a wise woman!

  4. Patty Perrin – Florida – Author of Teen/YA SciFi Adventure and Inspirational Non-Fiction, I'm an avid reader, happily married to the love of my life, a mom and gramma and a light and salty follower of Jesus Christ. I grew up an Army Brat in Europe, had no television, and subsequently read books for entertainment in-between adventures that my parents never knew about. My TETRASPHERE series is one I would have loved reading as a teen, which is why I wrote it. I still enjoy the Teen/YA genre, along with SciFi, Fantasy, Time-Travel, some Romance, Mystery, and a few non-fiction categories. If it has print, I will read it. If I can squeeze it into my Kindle, I will read it. You can find out more at www.ptlperrin.org.
    Patty Perrin says:

I LOVE this post, Pat! Love is the one thing that brings fulfillment. We fill up with life, and when we pour it out in love toward others, we become a fountain, flowing with joy and energy. Busyness for its own sake blocks the flow and turns the fountain into a stagnant pool. And the balance between being and becoming is vital to growth and life. Great song, too!

    Blessings!
    Patty

    1. Hello Joy,
Thank you. You are a talented soul too and it’s a pleasure getting to know you.
      Have a lovely Saturday.
      Shalom aleichem 🤗

  5. Look at you on that stage! I wish I could hear you singing these words! You have such an incredible intellect and a kind heart. The lyrics suit you.

  6. Beautiful song, Pat! I practice mindfulness and being in the moment, even though I live a very busy life. As busy as it is, it is only one moment at a time. That being said, I understand what you mean because before understanding mindfulness, I was never present, just moving from one task to another. Being and becoming bring richness to life, and I’m so glad I’ve discovered that.

    Linda Mims says:

I love this post, Pat! Food for thought.

  8. Author Jan Sikes – Texas – I am an award-winning author. I love creative writing and I love music. I've published four books that are true stories written in fiction format. They are entertaining like fiction, but everything did actually happen. I've also published a book of poetry and art, nine fiction short stories, and a paranormal romance series (The White Rune Series). I enjoy promoting other authors and Texas music artists!
    Jan Sikes says:

I love this post, Pat. You are SO right. We can let ourselves get too busy to live, or too busy to remember why we are here in the first place. Thank you for this beautiful reminder! Have a blessed day!

  9. I so agree, “Busyness disrupts the soul and the spirituality of any person.” After weeks of nose-to-the-grindstone work, I’m taking a day off with a friend.

Here’s to shorter lists and a wonderful weekend, Pat! 😀

    1. Hi Marian,
It makes me happy to know you’re taking a day off. Enjoy those moments.
      Shalom aleichem
