DAY 20, JANUARY 21, 2023, A DAY IN MY LIFE…SNIPPETS OF ME By Pat Garcia @pat_garcia @RRBC_Org @RRBC_RWISA @Tweets4RWISA #RWISA #RRBC #RRBC_Community #ADayinMyLife

DAY 2O, JANUARY 21, 2023, DO IT AFRAID

I discovered some time ago that people who change history are not fearless. They are fearful, but they go ahead and move in the direction of their dreams anyway.

They give me the courage to walk the truths I have discovered and do it afraid.

That is why I admire artists like Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Henri Matisse. Or writers like Charles Dickens, Charlotte and Emily Bronte, Georgette Heyers, Phillis Wheatley, Sarah E, Farro, and Lorraine Hansberry, who made her mark by becoming the first African American to have a play performed on broadway.

Many of these artists have made an imprint on my life; some sit around my invisible mentor’s table. Some received very little recognition, and some died impoverished.

I am still determining where I will end up, but I will keep moving forward until time as we know it is no more.

So, that’s my takeaway for today. If you have a dream deep down inside you, a desire that you think will benefit others and yourself, and you fear what others will think, let it bother you if you want, but don’t stop being what you were destined to be. You’ll only see change once you learn to do it, afraid.

My list for the week

  1. I’m revising the first 10K of my new novel. It usually takes me at least four to six days to fix 10K. I like to send her what I call my final draft so that she understands the direction I’m moving in.
  2. I have a letter to write. I had decided to wait until after the Challenge, but my gut is telling me to do it now, which is what I will do.
  3. Answering emails and text messages, Daily
  4. Attend my writing classes and do my homework,

Have a lovely Saturday.

  1. Shirley Harris-Slaughter – I love old buildings and history. That's why I ended up writing about the history that surrounded me all of my life - "Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community." Plus our church had closed and the school is torn down, so I felt it was imperative that we preserve the history or it would be lost forever.
    Shirley Harris-Slaughter says:

Pat, I’ll put you right up there with those timeless artists. You have a few hidden talents of your own.

  2. Susanne Leist – United States – A career in writing has been an enormous leap for me. Accustomed to the number-crunching field of budgeting and the hectic commodity markets, I left my first career and M.B.A. in Finance behind to pursue my dream. However, I do not regret my foray into literature for one moment. I write every day and have even tried my hand at poetry. So don’t let anyone tell you it’s too late in life to try something different. It is never too late to follow your heart. THE DEAD GAME SERIES brings fantasy and surrealism to the classic murder mystery with dead bodies, suspects, and clues. In addition, it offers vampires and a touch of romance to spice the motley mix. My new release, MEET ME IN MAINE, is the first book in THE BLUE HARBOR SERIES. It provides the backdrop for murder, mystery, and romance in a seaside town. Love falters and flourishes as the residents fight the persistent evil plaguing their small-town lives. Sit back, put up your feet, and let me bring mystery and romance to your lives.
    Susanne Leist says:

No one takes my writing seriously besides my daughters. I write paranormal suspense, and my friends believe my books are bloody horrors. I tried to explain they are more romantic suspenses, but it didn’t help. So I ignore people’s comments and write what I enjoy.

Let’s face it Susanne, most of our friends don’t support us anyway. So just continue to write for yourself.

  3. Patty Perrin – Florida – Author of Teen/YA SciFi Adventure and Inspirational Non-Fiction, I'm an avid reader, happily married to the love of my life, a mom and gramma and a light and salty follower of Jesus Christ. I grew up an Army Brat in Europe, had no television, and subsequently read books for entertainment in-between adventures that my parents never knew about. My TETRASPHERE series is one I would have loved reading as a teen, which is why I wrote it. I still enjoy the Teen/YA genre, along with SciFi, Fantasy, Time-Travel, some Romance, Mystery, and a few non-fiction categories. If it has print, I will read it. If I can squeeze it into my Kindle, I will read it. You can find out more at www.ptlperrin.org.

Great post, Pat! I read this quote recently, “Courage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway.” I’ve also heard it defined this way: Courage is not the absence of fear, but it is taking action despite the fear. I must say, you are one of the most courageous people I know.

    Blessings!
    Patty

  4. Great people to be inspired by Pat. Thanks for sharing. You do much in life that fulfils your dreams, afraid or not my friend !

  5. Hi Pat–I attended a wonderful multi-media Van Gogh exhibition here in Schenectady recently. It was truly amazing, since viewers were surrounded by his works. What a shame that he died in poverty. Lorraine Hansbury’s play, “A Raisin in the Sun” was extraordinary as well. Have you read any Zora Neale Hurston? I took a class in college in Black literature. She was by far my favorite.

  6. Author Jan Sikes – Texas – I am an award-winning author. I love creative writing and I love music. I've published four books that are true stories written in fiction format. They are entertaining like fiction, but everything did actually happen. I've also published a book of poetry and art, nine fiction short stories, and a paranormal romance series (The White Rune Series). I enjoy promoting other authors and Texas music artists!

    Beautiful thoughts today, Pat!

  7. Very motivational post, Pat! As someone who lives with anxiety, this rings true for me. I’ve learned to work THROUGH it because there is so much life to live. Nothing, not even the ruminating voice inside my head, is going to keep me from living it. Great post!

  8. Hi Pat, an inspiring post. I think most people find many things in life a bit scary at first. A first day at work can be very overwhelming and publishing a book that you have laboured over for months and even years, is also scary, but it is worth overcoming the fear and getting it done.

  9. Linda Mims – Midwest, USA – Educator, Author, Blogger, and supporter of Independent Writers. One mystery novel, The Neon Houses, http://amzn.to/2kSqdPX. Find me on Twitter @boom_lyn.
    Linda Mims says:

Inspiring words for a Saturday morning. Thanks, Pat!

    1. Good Morning, Linda,
Thank you so much. Have a lovely Saturday.
      Take care.

  10. Stories by Karen – USA – With a degree in Criminal Justice, and a fascination with the supernatural, Black combines experience and imagination to create dramatic stories that are believable, but don’t end quite the way you would expect. Black is best known for her short story, MOUNTAIN JUSTICE, where a horse takes center stage in a story of violence and suspense. Her first novel, RACE INTO MURDER, is also equine related. The murder mystery is set at a racetrack, which is not surprising, since for years, she owned and loved thoroughbred racehorses. She still follows the racing circuits. An animal and nature lover, this author does most of her writing in the fall and winter. In the spring and summer, there are hummingbirds to feed, baby critters to watch, gardens to plant, and herbs to nurture. Black lives in the United States with her husband and two aliens disguised as cats. One of the critters is rumored to be ET’s second cousin, but that has not been confirmed.
    Karen Black says:

    Enjoy the day, Pat!

    1. Hi Karen,
You too. Have a lovely day.
      Thanks for dropping by.
      Shalom aleichem 🤗

  11. Good morning, Pat! I too have adopted the phrase “Do it afraid”! As writers we can also “Do it tired/happy/confused/inspired.”

You are getting there, two-thirds of the way to the end of January. Perhaps I’ll see you on Zoom today. 😀

    1. Hi Marian,
Yes, as writers we have the chance to explore ourselves, our world and the people who inhabit it. That exploration brings the chance to open doors and discover what is behind the door. Sadly, too many of us don’t discover that because we are afraid and we go to the grave with whatever talent was behind the closed door and the talent is never used.

I hope to see you there.
      Shalom aleichem 🤗
