DAY 16, MARCH 16, 2024, EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE

Growth fascinates me. Looking at the trees I planted in my backyard, I am astonished at how they keep moving toward Heaven.

However, that pertains to everything in life. We are on a journey. When I take the time to observe the people around me, revisit the places I have been, or see a cat or dog grow into maturity, I marvel at how quickly people, animals, places, and situations change.

Nina Simone, one of my favorite singers, recorded a song that has followed me so far in my life, and this song makes me aware of how precious life is and how quickly it can change.

On one of the blogging days during this 2nd RRBC Blogging Challenge, I showed you a picture of my baby palm, three. A leaf had not opened up. Yet today, it has opened, and another leaf is coming. I see the changes when I behold the palm tree I named Hadassah.

Most profound are the changes I see within myself and on my body when I look in my mirror. The changes are sometimes like footprints, revealing that time is passing by.

Nina Simone – this is a version in her older years, but I find it great. It is emotion pure!

Everything must change; nothing remains the same.

Learning to live with that reality and remaining true to your purpose is the mark that distinguishes the human being from all else on this earth.

Shalom shalom

  1. Patty Perrin – Florida – Author of Teen/YA SciFi Adventure and Inspirational Non-Fiction, I'm an avid reader, happily married to the love of my life, a mom and gramma and a light and salty follower of Jesus Christ. I grew up an Army Brat in Europe, had no television, and subsequently read books for entertainment in-between adventures that my parents never knew about. My TETRASPHERE series is one I would have loved reading as a teen, which is why I wrote it. I still enjoy the Teen/YA genre, along with SciFi, Fantasy, Time-Travel, some Romance, Mystery, and a few non-fiction categories. If it has print, I will read it. If I can squeeze it into my Kindle, I will read it. You can find out more at www.ptlperrin.org.

    Hi, Pat,

I love how you wrapped up today’s post. “Learning to live with that reality and remaining true to your purpose is the mark that distinguishes the human being from all else on this earth.”

There is no growth without change. Remember the little-tree-that-could from my last year’s blog challenge? The one the storm blew over? It’s now twice the height it was at that time, and has gone through its own four seasons beautifully. When I think about growth, it strikes me as a miracle. My once-tiny babies now tower over me. How did that happen? Life changes are always growth opportunities, even when they’re nearly unbearably hard. People we love come and go, and we age. We can accept the difficult changes with trust, hope, and even joy. Positive changes delight us. How dull life would be without change.

    Wonderful song. Wonderful post!

    Blessings!

    1. Patty, I remember that little tree from last year’s blog challenge and I am so happy to hear that he has grown.
      God is good.
Thank you so much for stopping by-
      Shalom shalom

    1. My Dear Yvette,
You have said that wonderfully. When we’re still alive, that is a blessing in itself.
Thank you for coming by and have a lovely day.
      Shalom shalom

  2. pdoggbiker – Sterling Heights, MI USA – I'm a Vietnam Veteran and author of six books - 3 about my experience during the war in 1970 / 1971 and 3 other memoir type short stories. My website includes everything "Vietnam War". You'll find 500+ personal narratives, photos, videos, music from the era, book reviews, and book trailers about the #VietnamWar. Read our stories and engage with other vets...we all had a hand in shaping history during that time.
    pdoggbiker says:

Our tree was an imitation of human life and lasted about forty years. We had to put it down after a disease took over and ate it from the inside out. I love your palm tree…

  3. Pat, I also marvel at the passage of time, not only in my own life but the grand scope of all life on Earth. Recently, I have seen a few programs about the special beings that brought agriculture and construction to our ancestors at the end of the last Ice Age. There are stories of similar beings in different parts of the world, like Egypt and South America. The normal people of the day looked at those beings as supernaturals who came to teach humanity. Construction of massive temples like the Egyptian, Inca, and other South American groups all did the same thing. I wonder what life was like for those beings whose lands were lost by the end of the Ice Age. Our world is more complicated that we ever thought.

    1. Thank you so much for this pingback. I appreciate it.
      Have a lovely day,
      Shalom shalom

  4. Shirley Harris-Slaughter – I love old buildings and history. That's why I ended up writing about the history that surrounded me all of my life - "Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community." Plus our church had closed and the school is torn down, so I felt it was imperative that we preserve the history or it would be lost forever.
    Shirley Harris-Slaughter says:

Pat, nature really is a marvelous wonder. I watched a young tree grow into these long branches with a height full of foliage that houses the birds and critters and bees nest. I just looked out the window and noticed how big and tall it had grown.

    Amazing!

    1. My Dear Shirley,
Yes, nature is phenomenal and I purposely take the time to slow down and enjoy it. It brings joy to heart.
Thank you so much for dropping by, and have a lovely day.
      Shalom shalom

  5. Stories by Karen – USA – Black began writing in 2010, combining imagination and experience to weave dramatic plots with believable characters in descriptive contemporary settings. She writes in a variety of genres, her character-driven storylines filled with adventure and drama in real-life situations. A four-legged character appears in most of her publications, a testament to her passion for animals. The author of novels, novelettes, and short stories, her books have received awards from Readers’ Favorite, Page Turner Awards, Literary Titan, International Impact, and KCT International Literary, along with accolades from Kirkus Reviews. Black lives in the United States with her husband, and two alien creatures disguised as cats. One of them, her muse, is rumored to be ET’s second cousin. The rumor, however, has not been confirmed.
    Karen Black says:

Growth fascinates me, too, Pat. Your little palm is lovely and it is exciting to see new leaves! Yesterday, I planted key lime and mandarin orange seeds. I hope they grow!

    1. Hello, Karen,
You are a master at gardening. I am not, but I am happy with my little Hadassah. I am quite sure all of your seeds will grow. I have no doubt about that. Write a blog post on your blog and show us, when they have grown. I’d love to see it.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
      Shalom shalom

  6. This post is even more soulful than others. Wow! I enjoyed the lyrical voice of Nina Simone–emphatic and sincere. You continue to deliver in this month-long commitment. Blessings to you, Pat! 😀

    1. Thank you so much, My Dear Marian. I love Nina Simone lyrical voice. She studied at Juilliard School of Music. Two of her songs hit me every time I hear them. Everything Must Change and I Wish I Knew How It Feels To Be Free. There are songs that follow me and these two do that.
Take care and have a lovely day.
      Shalom shalom

  7. Beautifully said Pat.We are all here for the shortest time, therefore must make the most of every moment and maybe leave our mark behind.

    1. My Dear Joy, thank you so very much.
      Have a lovely Sunday.
      Shalom shalom

  8. “A song that has followed me” – what a beautiful phrase – and post! It reminds me, Pat, how love/art sometimes comes after us, seeks us out, throughout our life, as opposed to the other way around. Thank you for your insights and for your dedication to this monthlong blogging!

    1. Thank you My Dear Lisa.
I so agree with you about Love/art sometimes comes after us, seeks us out, throughout our life. It chooses you. When this happens you are no longer the same. Your life becomes wrapped up in the purpose of the one who chose you, and the road that lies before you, you take.

Take care and have a lovely Sunday.
      Shalom shalom
