DAY 27, MARCH 27, 2024, WORDPLAY

Good Morning, Everyone,

The word “Soon” has always intrigued me. Like most words in the dictionary, it is one of the words I cannot pinpoint to one particular meaning. I know how to conjugate it as an adverb, soon, sooner, soonest, but I have never been able to nail it and define it.

But saying he is coming soon doesn’t tell me if I should expect him in twenty minutes, two days, or even two years.

Thus, when the person I expected showed up two weeks later, and I asked him where he was, he said, ” I told you I would be here soon. But he didn’t tell me how soon. I should have asked, but I didn’t.

It could have been that I was making tiramisu and expecting him to walk in the door so we could sit together and have coffee and cake when he arrived.

Thus, I love wordplay. It is perplexing, and it takes my mind for a spin, forcing me to expand my sentences and give them depth like physical exercise does for the muscles in our bodies, and so is wordplay for my mind.

I wish all of you a charming day.

Shalom shalom,

Pat Garcia

    1. Good Morning, Shirley,
GREAT! I do wordplay whenever I get the chance. I also play with numbers by multiplying, adding, dividing, and subtracting if I awake at night.
Keep doing that. It does keep your mind sharp.
      All the best, my dear.
      Shalom shalom

  1. Hey Pat, several and few also fit into that category. I love tiramisu and get it every time my daughter and I go to Olive Garden.!

    1. JP, tiramisu is my favourite and yes, Olive Garden makes the best in the USA.
I agree, several and few belong in that category also.
      Have a lovely Good Friday.
      Shalom shalom

  2. Hi, Pat!

As I read your words, ‘wordplay’ somehow morphed into ‘swordplay.’ It brought to mind the Scripture that tells us to put on the armor of God. (Ephesians 6: 11-17) The armor is for our protection, but the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is our offensive weapon against the enemy of our souls. So as we share Scripture and stand on the Word, we are, indeed, practicing both Wordplay and Swordplay.

I thought you might enjoy that.

    Blessings!
    Patty

  3. Hi Pat–So why do they call people from Oklahoma “Sooners?” Is it because they show up sooner or later? I simply don’t know. But when I watch college basketball on TV and it’s the University of Oklahoma, the commentators always say, “Sooners in possession of the ball,” or “That’s a three-pointer for the Sooners.” That would be a good piece of word play to research!

  4. Thanks for this Pat! Of course, “soon” coming from the mouth of a teenager is also totally unpredictable: “I’ll come down soon,” or “I’ll do the dishes soon,” or “Yes, I’ll do my homework soon” and who the heck knows when that actually turns out to be! As always, your thoughts are right on! Thanks for writing!
