DAY 11, MARCH 11, 2024, HAPPY NATIONAL NAPPING DAY!

Good Morning, Everyone,

I take naps, and there is nothing I enjoy most other than reading, writing, playing my piano, playing bridge, bid whiz, or chess. However, it was only that way once I stopped trying to make my body take naps when it didn’t need to. In other words, I started listening to my body, paying close attention to my body rhythm, and taking naps when needed. Thus, I am an advocate for taking naps.

I sleep irregularly, so I don’t sleep eight hours at night. I’m a writer, and whenever the creative spirit wants to give me a story or change something I write, I get up and do it.

Also, I have a concert now and then, which means late hours.

I am a voracious reader, too, and when I start reading a book that draws me into the story, I don’t usually go to bed after an hour or two. I read the book until the end.

Therefore, I had to develop my own plan for napping.

I am taking a nap in the late afternoon in my recliner.

Because my creative spirit wakes me up in the middle of the night to write, if there’s a story or an incident concerning my book or an article that it wants me to change, I have to get up and do it because sleep evades me. It may take me three to four hours to incorporate the changes before I can return to bed. Thus, afterward, I drink my coffee, meditate, and have breakfast, and then I sit in my recliner and nap. I am not a heavy coffee drinker. I drink two cups daily, so coffee does not keep me up.

My naps are not structured around time but based on my inner clock. It doesn’t matter what time of the day or night it is. It matters only that I take a nap when my body needs it. Sometimes, I even nap throughout the day in intervals and let my body relax because that is what it wants to do.

Thus, National Napping Day is something everyone needs to do. If we adhere to our inner clocks, we would not have as many accidents, sicknesses, aggravation, or stress as we have today.

I am glad that I finally have the type of career that lets me order my time according to the inner clock within me.

If you can, listen to your inner clock today and nap when your body’s inner clock decides it.

Have a lovely Monday.

Shalom shalom,

Pat Garcia

  1. Hi, Pat, I’m thankful to be able to nap when my body tells me to. Getting to sleep at night is often difficult for me. Too active an imagination, I suppose. I enjoyed reading your post and I’m happy to know there’s a National Nap Day.

Be blessed! You are a blessing!

  2. I know all about jumping up out of bed when an idea or thought invades your dreams and you just have to get it down or you lose it, or at least some version of it. So yes, I agree, we should listen to our bodies and take care of our needs accordingly.

Pat, I’m still waiting for some snippet of your concerts. We want to hear that voice. Just a teeny little bit!

    1. Hello, Shirley,
You’re so right about forgetting your dreams if you don’t get up right away and write them down. That happens to me to.

I tried to send you one of my songs over whatsapp, but I did something wrong. I will try again next week because I have many things to do next week.

Have a lovely day and take care of yourself.
      Shalom shalom

  3. Hey Pat! I sleep with a CPAP machine and take night pills that help me relax so I normally sleep 10+ hours a day. However, the part of my body that tells me that it’s time for a nap are my eyes. After being on the computer for a few hours every day, my eyes burn, and eyelids are heavy – having cataracts doesn’t help either. So, I’ll lay down for an hour before dinner. I’m surprised that with the time change, I haven’t had a need to take a nap, but I formally endorse them.

    1. Hi, JP,
You have found the best rhythm for your sleeping, and I like it that you lay down an hour when your eyes burn and your eyelids are heavy. It is always good to listen to your body when you are tired. A nap is always the best to do. I do that too.
Have a lovely day and take care.
      Shalom shalom

  4. Pat, as I mentioned in my post, you are one of the lucky ones who are able to take naps. That talent has always eluded me. After working for forty-seven years, I relish the opportunity to sleep late. In my working days, I was up at 6AM and at work before 8. Those days are gratefully over.

I wish you all the best.

    1. Hi, Karl,
I am happy that you are happy about being able to sleep late. As long as you love it, that is all that counts.
Have a lovely day and take care.
      Shalom shalom

  5. Reading your post makes me think we’re related. 😊 I usually awaken between 2:00 AM – 3:00 AM and then take reading/napping time in the early afternoon. I like the silence of the early morning, and it’s the best time for me to write.

    1. Hello, Gwen,
Indeed we have something in common. If I dream or a thought wakes me up, I get up and start writing. I usually use my iPhone, regardless of the time. In the silence, I write best because I hear best at that time.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
      Shalom shalom

  6. Hi Pat–It’s interesting that you wake up with ideas in the middle of the night. I have lots of strange dreams, and, now that I’m retired, I actually remember them when I wake up. If I ever wrote about those, people would think I was in outer space! I go to sleep late and wake up late. I do take naps on the days I play tennis, mostly.

It’s great to read about everyone’s individual processes. What a creative group!

    1. Hi, Wanda,
It is interesting that we all have different ways of sleeping and waking up. Maybe you should think about putting one of your dreams into a book. It might be a successful book.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
      Shalom shalom

    1. Hi, Yvette,
My naps are a bit unusual, but my body needs them, and I do enjoy them. Not everyone needs a nap or want to nap and that is okay. I admire people that do not need one.
Wishing you all the best, my dear.
      Shalom shalom

  7. Hi Pat, I usually nap when there is something I really wanted to see on the telly. Then wake up cross as I missed it, never seem to find the time to see it on catch-up.

    1. Hi Joy,
That’s interesting. Some people sleep good with the telly on. I don’t. I don’t even have a hook up for a telly in my bedroom.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
      Shalom shalom

  8. Hi, Pat. I am one of the lucky ones. When I go to bed at night, I usually wake up 8 hours later. So many people I know have trouble sleeping and I truly feel blessed that I don’t.
