And Maybe, Just Maybe/Und Vielleicht, Nur Vielleicht by Pat Garcia, German Translation by Juliane Eppendahl

Christmas daringly denies the law of buoyancy,
It floats above the water,
Stilling the storms within us,
As we recognize that helping others is necessary to maintain life itself.

Good Morning Everyone,

Merry Christmas!

Here in some parts of Europe, Christmas is still being celebrated. Today is the second Christmas Day in Germany. I hope all of you took the time to relax and think about the reason Christmas is the highlight of the year for many of us.

I have formed my Christmas thoughts in a poem and have had it translated into German for my German readers. Whenever I have something translated I turn to one of the best translators I know. So, I give my heartfelt thanks to Juliane Eppendahl, for translating my poem into the German Language. She is a German wordsmith, and she infuses the spirit of my words into the German edition of this poem. She’s become more than a translator; she has become a friend, and I am thankful.

Shalom aleichem,

Pat. Garcia

And Maybe, Just Maybe

In A Way,

Christmas is

That teaspoon of hope mixed with faith.

A kind of faith that puts our expectations

beyond the realm of what we can do for ourselves.

In A Way,

Christmas is opening our eyes to the realities around us.

Not the gifts, or the cookies, or the warm family gatherings,

But the sensitivity to recognize the hunger in the world,

The Borders with wired fences,

The Children abandoned or kidnapped,

The Women brutally murdered or raped,

While we soothe our consciouses

By singing Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly.

In A Way,

Christmas is a wake-up call,

Demanding that we cut out the bullshit,

Stop talking, discussing, and planning,

And start doing,

Taking the initiative to help those unfortunate,

By opening our borders,

And letting others enjoy the opportunities most of us didn’t appreciate,

Until Covid-19 introduced itself.

In A Way,

Christmas is stepping out of the boat,

Knowingly knowing we might sink.

We consciously move toward the call,

The pull,

The invisible Being who created us.

We humble ourselves in awe

At the Source that sustains every breathing moment of our existence.

We don’t see Him;

We don’t feel Him;

But we know He’s there,

Because we’re still breathing.

In A Way,

Christmas means taking responsibility.

Helping to feed someone other than ourselves.

Putting a warm coat on a person that can’t afford one,

A toy in the hand of a child,

And making someone else happy besides ourselves.

Christmas daringly denies the law of buoyancy,

It floats above the water,

Stilling the storms within us,

As we recognize that helping others is necessary to maintain life itself.

And Maybe,

Just Maybe,

Christmas is that wake-up call,

Pleading for us to love others like God loves us,

Unconditionally,

From the heart,

And the coldness in us melts,

The busyness in our lives cease,

Strife turns to peace,

Forgiveness slays unforgiveness,

And maybe,

Just maybe,

That’s Christmas.

_________

Und vielleicht, nur vielleicht

In gewisser Weise

ist Weihnachten

der Teelöffel Hoffnung, gemischt mit Glauben.

Eine Art von Glauben, die unsere Erwartungen

jenseits dessen befördert, was wir selbst tun können.

In gewisser Weise

In gewisser Weise

In gewisser Weise

Wir sehen Ihn nicht;

wir fühlen Ihn nicht;

Aber wir wissen, dass Er da ist,

weil wir immer noch atmen.

In gewisser Weise

bedingungslos,

von ganzem Herzen,

und die Kälte in uns schmilzt,

die Hektik in unserem Leben hört auf,

Streit verwandelt sich in Frieden,

Vergebung überwindet die Unversöhnlichkeit.

Und vielleicht,

nur vielleicht,

ist das Weihnachten.

  1. Oh my, Pat! You nailed this so perfectly and called each of us out of our little bubbles to see the reality around us. Here I sit with a refrigerator filled with food and a closet filled with clothes while many of my sisters shiver and starve. You have called me to action. I will be taking a box of donations today to help someone in need. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, my friend!

    1. Good Morning My Dear Jan,
I know the feeling. I’ve found for myself that I sometimes hoard things that I will never use again or clothes that I will never ever put on again, and I have learned to put a plastic sack by my closet and fill it. If I hang those things back up in my closet for another time, they will never get in the bag because I would forget them. 🙂
Take care of yourself and have a safe crossover into 2011. But we will see one another on December 30th. I am looking forward to hosting you here on my author blog. You’re my first guest.
      Shalom aleichem,

    1. Good Morning Gwen,

Thank you for visiting my author blog. Yes, Jesus was sent to show us how to be human. I don’t think many of us think about that aspect, and it is sad. I hope you have had a Merry Christmas and I wish you a safe and blessed crossover into 2021.
